My Prayer Journey
To Busy? To Distracted? What's the excuse??
We all live busy lives whether its work, family, hobbies etc and we can all be distracted by so many things even if it is that ole squirrel that a lot of us see! We can all make so many excuses to not sit down and find that quiet time and focus on prayer, I am guilty! I have said to myself and others in conversation, WHY is it so easy for us to find time to sit and watch television? WHY is it so easy to sit and scroll and play on our phones? WHY is it so easy to hang out with a friend and talk for hours? I am not saying there is anything wrong with all of these suggestions but WHY do we find it so easy to do these things and not find and prioritize our time to sit and talk to GOD?
In any kind of relationship, we start out getting to know that person. We start conversations like, So, I want to know more about you, what do you like to do? Tell me about your family, Where did you grow up? Where did you go to school? What line of work are you in? Do you know so and so? Do you know where this is? What are your favorite things to do? You get to know someone by finding out about them because you are truly interested in them and you want to see if you share common interest. So when you do share common interest that relationship grows and grows not only are you building a relationship you are sharing your heart and building trust. A relationship grows deeper and deeper and before you know it you are laughing and crying together, you are sharing your passions and your purpose, you are sharing your fears and your failures. You have a strong connection and have built a bond.
So WHY?? is it so hard to sit and talk and find that quiet time with the one who created you? (Genesis 1:27)The one who already knows EVERYTHING about you,(Psalm 139:1-4) the one who was and will always be there for your past, your present and your future. The one who will never leave you nor forsake you. ( Deuteronomy 31:8) Is it because HE doesn't seem real to you because you cant see HIM? Is it because you are afraid HE will not give you the answer you are looking for? Let this simmer for a moment, HE doesn't need us, HE wants us!! He longs for us to have conversation with HIM. I have often thought what it would be like to get up in the morning and not one person greet me, acknowledge me, to go throughout the day, the night not one person. Just silence. The next day same as the day before but maybe one or 100 people curse your name but nothing else, the next day maybe a few curse and swear by your name and blame you for horrible things happening. Would that not leave you feeling empty? Upset? So sad? So ALONE...
Do you struggle to know how to pray? Do you feel like your prayers aren't good enough? Do you run out of things to pray after only a few minutes? One prayer practice I have found that helps is the concentric circle, starting with yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers, your church, your neighborhood, your school, your city and state, the nation and the world. Even if you cant pray through every circle this pattern of prayer will help you to structure your time with GOD to be more effectively.
This year I have decided as much as GOD has blessed me and done in my life and showed me so much grace and mercy. I am making HIM my TOP priority! He will have my time and attention first thing in the morning, throughout the day and before I go to sleep. What are some of the ways you make prayer time a priority? Do you have a daily routine with HIM? Thanks for coming on this journey with me. I hope that this blog finds lots of wisdom and direction from all of you.
